Julia wins first place in Student Poster Competition
Jun 10, 2021
PhD candidate Julia Shates won first place in the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Polar Meteorology and Oceanography Student Poster Competition held virtually during the first week of June, 2021. Julia's poster summarized her work that is currently in revision with the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology. At two sites in Scandanavia (Haukeliseter, Norway and Kiruna, Sweden), she identified 3 snowfall regimes: deep, shallow, and intermittent snowfall. Additionally, she was able to identify the synoptic conditions in which these three regimes occur. Her future work will incorporate data from North Slope of Alaska (NSA) Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) facility. Congratulations, Julia!
