PhD candidate Julia Shates was selected for the 2022 AGU Precipitation Student Award for her oral presentation Multi-year Analysis of Rain-Snow Levels at Marquette, Michigan. Every fall AGU meeting, the AGU Precipitation Technical Committee selects students for the Precipitation Student Award. Julia's talk summarized her work that was published in JGR: Atmospheres (https://doi.org/10.1029/2022JD037132). Using measurements from a ground-based instrument suite, the work explores seasonal variations in rain-snow levels (RSLs). The RSL influences the macro-physical characteristics of rainfall and has implications for satellite detectability of precipitation phase and rate at the surface. Congratulations, Julia!
