Role of Clouds over the Greenland Ice Sheet

Jan 13, 2016

The results of our recent collaboration with a group at the University of Leuven to assess the effects of Arctic clouds in Greenland Ice Sheet melting was published today in Nature Communications. The work leveraged our CloudSat and CALIPSO datasets to demonstrate that clouds may be responsible for 1/3 of the meltwater runoff from the Greenland ice sheet by impeding refreezing of liquid water at night time. The University of Wisconsin-Madison issued this press release highlighting the study, and the story has been picked up by several other online news resources including The Washington Post, Yahoo News, and The Christian Science Monitor.
