Rudra wins CMM 2022 Student Poster Competition
Master’s student Rudra Thaker won first place in the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Polar Meteorology and Oceanography Student Poster Competition, held as a part of the Collective Meeting Madison (CMM) in August 2022. Rudra’s poster was part of his master’s project about Atmospheric Rivers (ARs) in the Arctic and their impacts on sea ice. He analyzed ARs detected by different algorithms in the Arctic and identified regions of sea ice loss near the west coast of Greenland, the Barents Sea, and the Kara Sea. Additionally, he found a strong correlation between ARs and sea ice loss in the Barents and Kara Seas. He is further studying the changing behavior of ARs in future climate using coupled climate models and their impacts on sea ice. Congratulations, Rudra!
