The Wisconsin Algorithm for Latent heating and Rainfall Using Satellites, or WALRUS, is a cloud-resolving model coupled algorithm that retrieves latent heating and other hydrology and energy quantities from satellite radar observations.
A general write up of the algorithm setup was recently published in the Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology. You can find it at http://dx.doi.org/10.1175/JTECH-D-15-0205.1.
A set of slides summarizing the algorithm methods is available here.
Data are available on the data page.
